How often do you need to go to the dentist?

Not many people like to visit the dentist but doing so on a regular basis can allow you to catch problems quickly and rectify them before they have the chance to cause too much damage. Most adults should go to the dentist at least once a year, but this can be anywhere from 2 months up to 2 years. Your dentist should be able to advise you on how often you should come to ensure you get the best level of care without unnecessary check up fees.

Children are often advised to come once every 6 months but again this may be made more frequent if they are experiencing issues.

If you leave it too long between appointments, you may find that you have to have more work done or that the tooth is in such a bad state that it actually needs to be removed. Often if dentists can catch decay early, they can arrange a filling. If they do not find it until later on then they may have no option to remove it which can cause unnecessary pain and stress for a child. Always talk to your dentist if you or your child is worried as they often have ways to help you remain calm and can offer advice and reassurance to help you feel at ease more.
